How to Throw a Baby Shower like a Celebrity

written by Ceinwyn Hart

Celebrity baby showers seem like the stuff of fairytales to many. Hundreds of guests, gourmet food, and luxurious gifts are all standards at celebrity baby showers. We hear talk of pure gold rattles and diamond studded binkies, things that a normal person would never buy. It would seem that throwing a baby shower celebrity style is completely out of reach for anyone making less than seven figures. In reality though, there are many ways to put together a baby sh0wer just like the stars. Don’t give up hope, follow the guidelines below and throw the celebrity (because you are to those who love you) baby shower of your dreams!

Give Your Shower a Theme
A party with a theme will inherently have more organization. You’ll know where you’re going with food and decorations, and guests will be inspired by your creativity. Don’t feel boxed in by traditional baby themes however, focus on what you like. Brooke Shields had a Moroccan themed baby shower for instance. Other celebrities have focused on more kid-centric theme, such as Nicole Richie’s “Wizard of Oz” shower, and Gwen Stefani’s lamb themed shower.

Keep Guests Entertained
A good party is one where no one gets bored! Make sure there are lots of activities and games for your guests to participate in. You could play traditional baby shower games like “Who said baby?” or you could make up activity stations where guests could make up personalized gifts for the baby shower. For instance, Trista Sutter of “The Bachelorette” fame had a t-shirt bar and a scrapbook table where guests could create scrapbook pages in memory of the shower. An entertained guest is a happy guest.

Give to Charity
Many celebrities receive so much swag that ten babies couldn’t use it up, let alone one. In order to handle some of the excess many celebrities do good by giving to charity. Mariska Hargitay of “Law and Order” sent the many presents she received from fans to a New York charity for mothers. Also, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden founded the Richie Madden Children’s foundation in cooperation with the Los Angeles Free Clinic in order to assist mothers in need. If you already have a bunch of baby goodies from a first child, or maybe just an overzealous grandma, ask guests to donate to your favorite charity in place of bringing a gift to the shower. You’ll get some warm fuzzy feelings from it, guaranteed.

Buy Practical Gifts with a Bit of Luxury
Another mark of a celebrity shower is practical gifts that are above and beyond the ordinary. These are things moms can use everyday like blankets and booties, but they’re a little bit special. Jennifer Garner’s presents for daughter Violet were all embroidered with the new addition’s name, while Tori Spelling received luxurious fuzzy angora booties. Buy quality presents for a baby shower that you know will last a long time and be appreciated by mom-to-be.

In reality, throwing a baby shower like the stars is very simple. Focus on quality and having a good time. Recruit lots of helpers and don’t get stressed, you don’t see celebrities going to their baby showers bald because they ripped out their hair in a fit of stress. Most of all, enjoy the memories you make at this special time in your life, and have fun!
